Bracket Watch - # 2 UCLA has a scare, Love and Mayo do battle

# 2 UCLA defeated rivals USC in the quarterfinals of the PAC 10 Tournament 57 to 54. UCLA was losing at the end of the first half however started the second half strong going on a 15-2 run. UCLA has now won 9 straight and now has 30 wins on the season becoming only third team in NCAA history to get 30 years in 3 straight seasons joining Kentucky and Memphis. Freshman forward/center Kevin Love showed why he was the PAC 10 Player of the Year in the opening second half run scoring 11 of the 15 points. Love finished the game with a double-double scoring 19 points and getting 10 rebounds. Kevin Love is also an Wooden Award finalist for National Player of the Year, while Tyler Hansbrough at UNC and Michael Beasley are considered the heavy favorites for the award you have to like the contribution Love is giving UCLA. UCLA figures to have a virtual lock on a number 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament with the win.

USC has been playing better basketball late in the season and was led in the loss by there own phenom freshman O.J. Mayo. Mayo scored 15 points and rallied the team to within 2 scoring 7 straight over the final 4 minutes of the game for the Trojans. Mayo missed a three point attemt at the buzzer which would have tied the game. Mayo had this to say about the miss "I thought I made it," Mayo said. "It felt good coming off, just missed the shot. We played our hearts out and left everything on the floor and just came up short.".
