Bubble Watch - Angry and rebuilding the Gators will not get chance to defend there title

Florida lost in the first round of the SEC Conference Tournament to Alabama by a score of 89 to 69 Thursday night. While it has looked like the Gators would not be in the big dance this year for a while, the loss put an exclamation mark on the Gators rebuilding season. Florida needing a very strong showing in the SEC tournament instead came out flat against Alabama and was losing 30 to 5 to start the game. Florida will become the first team since Kansas in 1998 not to make the NCAA tournament the year after a title. Florida is clearly rebuilding after losing six players who helped it win back-to-back national championships, three of the players were NBA lottery picks .
Suprisingly coach Billy Donovan was very candid after the loss and expects the rebuilding to continue next season, despite the five freshman on the team getting another year to develop. "It's in front of our guys, what it takes to win," Donovan said. "For whatever reason, I haven't brought it out in them. They're not committed to it. But I'm not necessarily really that excited about these guys being sophomores, to be honest. I don't think people change a whole lot, and I don't think you've seen the basketball team change at all this year. So it's hard for me to get overly thrilled or excited." Either coach Donovan is trying to light the fuse on these guys or he really does not like his own players.
The Gators main problem this year seemed to be team defence during the regular season, the Gators ranked 10th in the SEC in field-goal percentage defense, 11th in blocked shots, ninth in 3-point percentage defense, and last in steals. Surely one of the best coaches in the college game can develop his team into better defenders, Donovans comments suggest otherwise though "I think we have some talent issues on the defensive end of the floor, footspeed-wise, that sometimes is not all their fault," Donovan said. "But I think we have a commitment issue, too, which bothers me as a coach because I just got done coaching a group the last two years that was so committed. And to be with this group, I don't think just because they're going to be another year older that all of a sudden, everything gets resolved. I don't see that."
Some impressive post-season winning streaks ended with the loss includ 18 straight postseason wins. The Gators will hope to start a new win streak next year, and advoid creating a losing streak.
