OT Ends and Clock Strikes Midnight - Regular Season Cinderella Drake yields to NCAA Tournament Cinderella Western Kentucky - West Region

12:30 PM ET, March 21, 2008, St. Pete Times Forum, Tampa, FL

The clock struck midnight in the NCAA Tournament and the # 5 seed Drake bulldogs lost to the # 12 seed Western Kentucky 99 to 101. Western Kentucky now becomes the Cinderella story of March Madness. The close game took an overtime period with the game being tied at 88-88 at the end of regulation. Drake was up 1 after Jonathan Cox made two free throws with 5.7 seconds to play in the overtime. After the free throws Western Kentucky senior guard Tyrone Brazelton got the ball across center-court and found senior guard Ty Rogers on the wing and Rogers hit a three at the buzzer to shock Drake.

With the transition from the regular season to the NCAA Tournament comes new Cinderella stories. Drake was the Cinderella story of the regular season after winning the MVC Conference and getting into its first NCAA Tournament since 1971. Before the start of the regular season most people picked Drake to finish last in the MVC and thought Keno Davis's job was on the line, Davis went on to win the Sporting New's National Coach of the Year award after Drake's remarkable regular season.

Western Kentucky (28-6) got into the NCAA Tournament by winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. During the regular season Western Kentucky came in second in the conference to South Alabama. The win against Drake is the Hilltoppers first in the NCAA Tournament since 1995. Western Kentucky senior guard Tyrone Brazelton scored 33 points in the win to set a career high and lead all scorers in the game.

# 12 seeded Western Kentucky will move on to the second round of the West Region where it will face the winner of # 4 Connecticut and # 13 San Diego on Sunday.
