Marquette quites the Kentucky Wildcats - South Region

2:30 PM ET, March 20, 2008, Honda Center Anaheim, CA

In the South Region the # 6 seed Marquette beat the # 11 seed Kentucky 74 to 66. Kentucky had a rough start to the season on the leadership of new coach Billy Gillispie, however they finished the season strong enough to make there record 49th NCAA tournament appearance. Senior forward Joe Crawford gave it his all in the loss scoring a game high 35 points to match a career high, Crawford likely would have had more points if not for fouling out of the game.

Marquette won its first game in the NCAA tournament since beating Kentucky in 2003 to move on to the Final Four. Marquette was able to beat Joe Crawford's impressive effort with there multitude of scoring options. In the win Marquette guards Jerry McNeil, Dominic James, and Wes Mathews scored 20,15, and 13 points respectively. Forward Lazar Hayword added 16 points and led the Marquette with 7 rebounds.

# 6 Marquette (24-9) will go on to the Round of 32 in the South Region where they will play the winner of the game between # 3 Stanford (26-7) and # 14 Cornell (22-5) Saturday.
