Kentucky Wins One For the Coach

Kentucky is playing in the NIT for pride, and the job security of coach Billy Gillispie. Kentucky of course one of the most storied programs is looking for answers as Gillispie's first two teams have faired poorly, a good season in Kentucky is not the NIT not even for Western Kentucky. In sharp contrast Tubby Smith the coach Kentucky fans ran out of town on the rail has revived a dead in the water Minnesoat squad with a NCAA Tournament bid this year. Now Kentucky fans want Gillispie gone, the question is should this be done and at what price as the nation's economy could effect any decision to make a switch that would require a payout to Gillispie.

The Kentucky team did its part against UNLV to silence the critics with a hard played 70-60 first round NIT victory. Jodie Meeks scored 19 and Patrick Patterson added 16 to lead the Wildcats cause. Kentucky will now continue on with their season into the second round of the NIT, what a strange feeling it must be after 17 straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

The game was not played at Rupp arena as would be the NIT home court custom and was instead played at Memorial Coliseum Kentuck's first time there since 1976. Could not playing at Rupp Arena be the answer to Kentuck's problems as a program, is the name on the door to much for any new coach to live up to?
