Texas AJ Abrams Helps Eliminate Gopher Problems - East Region, Score,Recap

Texas's A.J. Abrams scored 24 points off of three pointers and 26 points overall to help Texas eliminate the Gophers from the NCAA Tournament with a 76-62 victory. This game was considered to have a good chance of seeing a tournament upset as it was believed that Tubby Smith might be able to get the Gophers ready for their first trip to the big stage since 2005.

A.J. Abrams was incredible in last years tournament averaging 20 points a game and scoring over 50% from three. This year he looks to be picking up where he left off as he busted open a close game by making 6 of his three point shots in a row. Tubby Smith's take on how Abrams abused them from beyond the arc "we didn't get our hands up". Well I am sure that Tubby might mention that once or twice heading into next season.

The loss ends what was a great rebuilding year for Minnesota as they got into the tournament and started with their best record in thirty years. For next year Minnesota will now need to learn how to finish out the season, because they lost 10 of their last 16 games.

Texas will now play Duke or Binghampton in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. Sorry Binghampton but I think we all look forward to a terrific second round match up of Texas vs Duke.
