March Madness 2010 Number 1 Seed Update

Kansas (#2, 20-1) had a huge OT win over the weekend on the road versus a very talented Kansas State (#13, 17-4) team by a score of 81 to 79.  With the victory Kansas is set to take over the number 1 national ranking after Kentucky lost their first game of the season, a 62-68 setback to South Carolina. To get a road win over a tough team like K State is a real boost to their tournament resume, and if March Madness started today they would very likely be the number 1 seed. Kansas is a very balanced team as 5 players scored in double figures against K state, with star center Cole Aldrich leading the way with 18 points and 11 boards. Their star senior guard Sherron Collins hit the shot that put Kansas up by three with 10 seconds remaining.

Kansas has everything you could want in a number 1 seeded team that will be favored to win March Madness, they have the excellent coach, 2 star players who are upperclassmen, a star center and guard, multiple players that can score in double digits, and they have already proven they can win on the road against tough competition. The one thing that is a little concerning is that their schedule hasn't given them many opportunities to beat premier teams yet, as their only other big game of the year was at Tennessee and they lost 68-76. Kansas will get another chance to prove how good they really are in just a few games as they will play at Texas on February 8th.
